Drying Hemp involves a few simple steps that make the process of drying much more efficient and time-efficient. First off, let’s take a look at how Hemp Drying works. Hemp is naturally high-maintenance, so it is critical to use the proper equipment and maintain a consistent temperature during the drying process. Hemp Drying uses two main types of equipment: the Hemp Drying Rack and the Hemp Stocks.
The Hemp Drying Rack is a piece of equipment that is typically found in a large commercial hemp drying facility. This equipment consists of two main pieces: the kick drum and the air conditioner. The kick drum is used to create a flame that is necessary to dry out the Hemp plants. The air conditioner takes care of maintaining the right temperature needed for the Hemp plants to germinate.
This two-part process is what makes Hemp Drying a unique solution for industrial hemp growing. It is also what makes it such a versatile material for farmers, businesses, and consumers. Hemp Stocks or trays are a combination of two pieces of equipment. They consist of a rectangular wooden frame with three holes in the middle (H Hemp). Hemp Stocks are used to help protect the Hemp plants from the elements, and also allow workers to easily access the crop.
Hemp Drying has several distinct advantages over other forms of drying. Hemp Stocks are created to allow the Hemp plants to enter a dormant state of dormancy. This allows the Hemp to develop at its most optimal growth rate. Drying in this state of dormancy increases the amount of Hemp biomass, which as noted is the highest material value per unit volume of material.
A Hemp Drying Chamber is creating similar to a traditional drying chamber. However, instead of using hot air to create heat in the chamber the air is vented into the air flow of the Hemp Drying Rack. This venting system of air flow assists in the complete drying of the Hemp without any burning, scorching, smoke, or excessive heat. In fact the greatest benefit of using a Hemp Drying Rack is the increased amount of air flow provided and the resulting thermal mass that are provided to the Hemp plant.
Hemp Drying can be accomplished in one of two ways, via physical methods and chemically. Hemp Drying can be completed by physically processing the Hemp and then converting it into a “Hempcrete.” This process can be done through two methods, either by hand or by machine. Hemp Drying via hand processing is often accomplished utilizing a cold press method wherein different mixtures of Hemp and binding agents are pressed against each other in order to convert the Hemp into a powder. Hemp Drying that utilizes the cold press method will yield a more consistent result and also creates a more consistent end product.
Hemp Drying is typically used to preserve the life of the Hemp plants after harvesting. Dried quickly allows the plants to begin to germinate and grow in the growing chamber without being exposed to the outdoor elements. This prevents the plants from drying out too much before the harvesting season. Hemp Drying is also typically used to retain the color, flavor, and clarity of the final product.
